Royaltree at Spier's
The Outreach Group at Spier's have been selected by the Woodland Trust to plant trees for the Diamond Jubilee and are doing so at the Spier's Garnock Valley Diamond Jubilee Wood with the assistance of the NAC Garnock Valley Ranger.
The first tree planted was an Oak tree from one of Queen Elizabeth's Scottish woodlands. Rowans, birch, hazel, and hawthorns were also planted.
The group, who are doing an SQA validated Estate Maintenance Course, also cleared the new path leading to their allotment and continued to surface it.
The YMBB group have started work at the old Garden of Remembrance site, cutting back self-seeded willows and restoring the old yew tree hedge.
YMBB are sorting through the rubble at the site looking for carved stones from the old school and are finding stones from the old 'Rose Garden'. The bricks will be recycled on site.
It is hoped that local people will at some point have an opportunity to plant a tree in celebration of the 2012 Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Watch this space.
