Orr Park Neighbourhood Watch Meeting
Our meeting on Tuesday evening in the Community Centre lounge was again very well attended by the usual group of members who are dedicated to keeping the area one to be proud of.
Our speaker for the evening was from Strathclyde Fire and Rescue. We were treated to an enlightening talk of fire hazards in the home and how to avoid them. We also watched several informative films on the rapid spread of fire in the home, and on what to do to both organise escape routes and use them in the event of fire.
Interestingly it seems that the primary cause of death in a fire is not by being burnt but by smoke inhalation.
The clear message is in the event of a serious fire"
1 Close all doors (starve the fire of oxygen).
2 Don't panic and get out as quickly as possible via the safest shortest route.
3 Keep low where both the heat and smoke are at a minimum.
We extend our thanks to Strathclyde Fire and Rescue for a very interesting evening.
