4/2/2010Friends of Spiers Group established

After a well attended and successful meeting on a snowy night in Beith's Eglinton Inn the 'Friends of Spiers' (FoS) group has been established.

FoS is a new Garnock Valley based support group, to be affiliated to the British Trust For Conservation Volunteers (BTCV), which will work with the Spier's Trust, North Ayrshire Council Ranger Service, NAC Grounds Maintenance, Beith Cultural & Heritage Society, and others to further the development and maintenance of the Spier's Parklands at the Spier's Old School Grounds.

FoS will encourage other groups to become involved at Spier's through membership, carrying out conservation projects; biodiversity enhancement initiatives; photographic and other surveys; as well as arranging events and furthering the educational and ecotherapeutic uses of Spier's woodlands and open spaces.

For more information about the Friends of Spiers please contact the NAC Ranger Service in the first instance at 01294-551776 or rangerservice@north-ayrshire.gov.uk
