Dead Man's Planting - starting to come to life again
The Barrmill Conservation Group (BCG) are working towards the restoration of the 1829 Dead Man's Planting Cholera pit site on James Hill near Barrmill Park.
Mark Asbury from Kilbirnie has kindly cut down a large dead sycamore tree and cut up the fallen trees so that BCG can start work on building a fence around the old triangular shaped burial pit site. Once fenced off new trees will be planted and wildflowers also.
It is hoped that a special service of dedication will take place at the completion of the project to remember the unknown victims of a terrible plague that killed thousands in Ayrshire alone in the 19th century..
The group have already built a stile and bridge to allow easy access from the Barrmill Park and an information board has been erected.
