Spier's School memories

by Roger Griffith
Roger Griffith says: I am interested in the history of the old Spier's school and its grounds. If anyone has any old photographs or memories of the school and the layout of the school grounds then that would be very useful. The grounds are a good wildlife site and any knowledge of the animals, plants and fungi would help build up a picture of the habitats and their development over the years. I gather some parts had names. like the forbidden path, high field, etc. Are their any more names for localities within the old grounds?

I have some old school magazines and intend to send in some extracts from them, mostly pages with photo's. I sent in first photos at the weekend from 1969 and 1971 editions of magazine and will send in others when I find the magazines.
Hope these may be of interest, John.

I know an old lady who was good friend with the couple who farmed the Marshland farm, and she has lots of good stories and some photos of the farm and surrounding area, she might be worth speaking to and recording - she lives near Stewarton

I would very much like to make contact, record the details and scan the photographs. Please phone the NAC Ranger Service at 01294-551776 and let me know the address, etc. Many thanks.

If you click into the groups tab above then access the Geilsland School page you'll find contact details for Alex Ferguson at Geilsland. We are holding our annual summer open day on Wednesday 23rd June, maybe you'd like to attend and see round the school.

Memories, Nostalgia & History

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
