Youth Making Beith Better (YMBB)
Youth Making Beith Better (YMBB) was set up by members of the local community to give the youth of Beith an opportunity to involve themselves in improving Beith and its surrounding areas. At the same time, the group is providing a forum for young people to learn additional skills, make new friends, enter award schemes, enter fund raising and other competitions, etc, etc. The group is closely involved with the Saint Inan's parade and other local community events.
YMBB meet in the Beith Community Centre twice a week. The YMBB committee includes youth members, volunteering adults from the community and local councillors who help in the overview of the group, forward planning, etc.
A dedicated John Muir Award group meet in Spier's parklands every Friday at 4.30pm in the Spring & Summer; the High Church hall is the venue in the winter.
YMBB members are frequently featured in local online newspapers, traditional newspapers, etc and a have a long term committment at the Spier's Old School Grounds on Barrmill Road, working towards the stages of the John Muir Trust Awards. YMBB have set up a number of geocaches to encourage locals and visitors to go out and visit local beauty spots and the many sites of interest around Beith.
YMBB were honoured by the Beith community with a commendation at the Citizen of the Year Awards in 2010 and they won the 'Spier's Cup' for conservation work as awarded by the Friends of Spiers (FoS) in 2010.
