Here are just a few historical dates:
9th Century - Saint Inan's chapel stood on the site of the Auld Kirk
1593 - A parish church, in the form of a cross, was built on the site of the pre-Reformation Church, dedicated to St. Inan
16th Century - Poet Alexander Montgomerie born in Hessilhead Castle
18th Century - Rev. John Witherspoon (1723 - 1794), a signatory of the American Declaration of Independence, was a former minister of the parish
1 June 1843 - Dr Henry Faulds, originator of the forensic use of fingerprinting as a means to identify criminals, born in Beith
19th Century - Stevenson and Higgins, world-famous cabinet works firm, founded
21 July 1840 - Beith Station opened. Renamed Beith North on 2 June 1924.
26 June 1873 - Beith Station opened. Renamed Beith Town on 28 February 1953, closed permanently to passengers 5 November 1962.
1875 - Beith FC founded. Reformed as a Junior Club in 1938.
1887 - Speir's school built by Mrs Margaret Speir to commemorate John Speir, her son
1933 - First St Inans pageant
1938 - Beith Juniors F.C. formed
4 June 1951 - Beith North Station closed permanently
